When I bought this and turned it on there was a pretty bad plasticy smell. I did some research and can now use it without ruining food. It also works very well in general and is easy to use.
Here's what I did:
Cook half vinegar and half lemon juice mixture, 6-8 oz of each, for 15 minutes at 370°. I used a small glass dish.
Wash then cook any greasy food. I used a solid food, a chicken leg and wings I was okay with not eating. It's 50/50 if they'll taste good at this point.
If this doesn't work repeat the second step another time.
We did this and we now cook the most amazing low salt fries without an overpowering after taste.
